National Trails Day Recap: Dust, Rocks, and Trail Magic on Silver Lining

On Saturday, June 7, we celebrated National Trails Day the best way we know how—by getting our hands dirty and giving some love to the trails that give so much to us. Under bluebird skies (and a fine layer of dust), volunteers joined forces with WRTC staff, our Hybrid Trail Crew, BLM staff, and retired trail pros to put in some serious work on the upper section of Silver Lining.

Together, we raked out 0.8 miles of trail from top to bottom and spot-raked another 1.2 miles, clearing out rock “waterfalls” that had created rough pools in a few corners. It was dusty, it was sweaty, but the progress was incredible—and the vibe? Even better.

One of the real highlights of the day was seeing our Hybrid Trail Crew in action, not just working hard on the trail, but connecting with the community. These folks are the unseen force behind out trails, and having them step out of the shadows and into the spotlight to work alongside volunteers is amazing.

Have you ever wondered “Who actually takes care of these trails?” By showing up to events like this, our community is getting to know the faces behind the trails—the hardworking staff and crew members who are out there in the heat, on the steep climbs, tirelessly working on our trails day after day.

We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up and gave their time and energy to make the trails better for everyone. Whether you wielded a rake, tossed a few rocks, or just shared a trail story with someone new, you made a difference.

Until next time—keep showing up, keep connecting, and keep finding the silver lining.
